In 1998 I was in trouble and didn't know much about law. We paid thousands for our lawyer to upfront and completely explain the choices he advises us to accept. Lanehart said for me to accept a plea with deferred adjudication. I understood that as long as i complete without problems , that my conviction would not show up ..only an arrest. Well let me tell you it doesn't say nothing about arrest , it shows I pled guilty and was sentenced to deferred adjudication for my charges. Ever since my life has been hell filled with disappointment after disappointment with jobs turning me down for a 25 year old guilty plea that I thought details would be vague and only show I was arrested! I was arrested as a 19 year old in 98 and I'm 50 now and I keep losing opportunities for jobs even this long after. It was my first offense , I was eligible for probation on that merit alone , when the main defendent explained it was only him and he got decades but tried to show that I wasnt guilty just gave a guy a ride and he chose to do it himself and looking back, i feel chuck chose to plead me and didnt offer to go to court had i gotten convicted , id still have deffered adjudication but i could of expunged my record but because i pled guilty i cant have it expunged and because i didnt understand the magnitude of my choice i cannot find employment . Lanehart left me destroyed.
